Pont had developed the CoolMax fibre especially for use in making
athletes’ clothes. The CoolMax fibre channels the athletes’ perspiration
away from the skin outwards where it evaporates into the air. This theory works
very well in clothes that have ample contact with air and to a certain degree in
Stump Sock but only in cases where mild to moderate perspiration occurs. As
Stump socks, inside the socket, have very little contact with air, a situation
could arise where the perspiration will become trapped in the socket, causing
discomfort. This is why we developed the double action Cool Wool Sock with 2
distinct layers. The CoolMax layer wicks perspiration away from the skin and any trapped moisture will be attracted and held in its outer wool layer. The result is an extremely versatile sock that is elastic and soft with a very snug fitting. It is also thinner than the 100% wool sock (Standard and XH types). Extra thickness and softly cushioned socks As previously mentioned the original Cool Wool sock consists of an inner layer of 2-ply brushed CoolMax* and an outer layer of 4-ply Australian Merino wool. Since its release in August 2001 we had a steadily growing demand for a thicker Cool Wool sock. We have now added 2 thicker socks to our Cool Wool range: The Cool Wool Heavy - 6-ply Merino wool + 3-ply CoolMax. 40% thicker than the original Cool Wool sock. The Cool Wool Extra Heavy - 8-ply Merino wool + 4-ply CoolMax, 75% thicker than the original Cool Wool sock. So if you are looking for a truly thick sock this is the one for you as you won't find a thicker sock that that anywhere.
