Notes
-
The last measurement of the
SS socks is the width of the bulbous.
- The V's and W's are the arm socks. In the Above Elbow (V) sock the length
is measured from the armpit. And the top width is at armpit level. Arm socks
are 4 ply Standard.

Additional Notes
Understanding the Code Size of The traditional Merino Wool Sock
A typical code number of the Traditional Merino Wool sock starts with 1 letter
and followed by 3 digits. The first 2 characters of a code size, such as A1, A2,
C2 etc., refer to the width of the sock, Top x Toe. The last 2 digits (in red
above) indicate
the length.
For instance: In the table above you can see that the width of the A1 sock is 7½ x 4½
(top x toe). Therefore all A1 socks have that width. So, if this is the correct
width for you and you need a length of 20" your code size is A120.
Some code sizes also have one or more letters following the 3 digits. These
extension letters indicate the thickness (number of plies) of the sock.
Because the strands of wool we use in our socks are finer than other brands the
ply rating of our socks may be different to the one you are using now. View this
Comparison Table with the Knit-rite brand.
Extension Letters
XL (Extra Light) = 4 ply. Thinner than Standard.
XH (Extra Heavy) = 8 ply. Thicker than Standard.
BL (Blue) = 8 ply. Thicker than Standard.
No extension letter = Standard 6 ply.
From the table above we can assume, for instance, that A318 has a Standard thickness of 6 ply
with measurements of: 18 x 9.5 x 6.5 (Length x Top X Toe). And A318XH has the
same measurements as the A318 only thicker (8 ply).

Measure your stump to determine the flat measurements of your
sock
1. Measure the length of the portion of your stump that fits into the socket
of the prosthesis. In taking down this measurement also allow
for another 2 - 3 inches for folding down over the prosthesis.
2. Measure the circumference around the top end. The Top end measurement refers to a line
near the top edge of the prosthesis.
3. Measure the circumference around the toe end. The Toe end measurement refers to a line approximately
2 inches from the lower end of
stump.
Now divide the top and toe widths in
2. With these measurements, of Length x Top x Toe, go to one of the tables above
to select your sock.
Alternatively, send
your stump measurements to sales@hellersocks.com
and we promise a prompt reply. Before emailing see

In your email to us you may include some
helpful information such as:

you are currently using, i.e. material, weight (ply) etc.
c. Let us know if
